FOREIGN FREEHOLD PROPERTY OWNERSHIP BY COUNTRY


The "Foreign Freehold Property Ownership" indicator refers to the ability of an investor to acquire freehold property (i.e. non-lease) in a country whose citizenship he/she does not have. In this context "property" refers to both buildings and land.

Countries have been categorized into those which allow foreign freehold property ownership fully or with minor restrictions (marked with a "YES in the table below"), those which allow it partially and those which significantly restrict or ban the practice.

Please note that some countries/territories only allow leasehold property ownership (such as Hong Kong) and are therefore, marked with a "NO" in the table below.
